Save an MP4 that opens in a browser tab
Confirm that the video actually plays
A playing MP4 means DownXVideo found a supported file and the browser opened it directly. A blank page, source error, or access message is a different problem and may require parsing the original post again.
Use the desktop browser save control
On a PC or Mac, look for a download icon in the video player. If none appears, right-click or Control-click the video and use Save Video As or the equivalent action only when your browser offers it.
Use the mobile browser save flow
On iPhone or iPad, try Share or Save to Files. On Android, check the player, browser menu, or an available long-press download action. Labels vary, so use the action provided by the current browser.
Check the browser download list
After starting the save, open the browser’s downloads list before trying again. It shows whether the file is still transferring, completed, or was blocked by a browser setting.
Re-parse an expired source link
If an older MP4 URL no longer works, return to the original public post and run DownXVideo again. Source media URLs and signed same-site download links are not permanent.
Why the browser plays the MP4 instead of saving it
DownXVideo labels a result Open MP4 when the action points to a direct source file rather than an eligible same-site attachment download. A browser can display an MP4 in its built-in player, just as it displays an image or PDF in a tab.
This fallback can appear when the file is over the current 500 MiB proxy limit, its size cannot be confirmed, or a same-site proxy download is unavailable. The browser is deciding how to handle the returned media; DownXVideo is not silently converting or replaying the video.
Save the playing MP4 on a PC or Mac
- Move the pointer over the player and look for its download control.
- If no control appears, right-click the video on Windows or Control-click it on macOS.
- Choose Save Video As, Download Video, or an equivalent action only if the current browser offers it.
- Choose a destination if prompted, then confirm progress in the browser’s downloads list.
Menu labels vary by browser and version. If there is no save action, return to the original DownXVideo result and try another available source variant rather than installing a tool that asks for your X password or cookies.

Save the playing MP4 on a phone or tablet
- iPhone or iPad: use Safari’s Share menu, Save to Files, or an available long-press action. A saved file normally appears in Files before Photos.
- Android: check the player download control, browser menu, or an available long-press download action. Then open the browser’s downloads list or the Files app.

If the source tab no longer works
Do not treat a direct MP4 URL as a permanent public page. Source media URLs can expire or change, and DownXVideo’s signed same-site download links are also temporary.
- Close the expired media tab.
- Return to the original public X/Twitter post.
- Copy the post URL again and parse it on this page.
- Use the newly returned MP4 action.
DownXVideo does not keep a permanent hosted copy or personal download history, so the original public post is the recovery point.
Playback, parser failure, and access failure are different
- The MP4 plays: parsing succeeded; use a browser save action.
- The tool shows an error code: follow the matching recovery step in the troubleshooting guide.
- The source says access is unavailable: the post or media may be private, deleted, restricted, or expired. DownXVideo does not bypass that state.
- The media needs conversion or stream merging: the current product does not provide that processing.

Is a video-only tab a DownXVideo error?
Not when the MP4 plays. It means a supported source file was found and your browser handled it as playable media instead of a forced attachment.
Why did DownXVideo use Open MP4 instead of Download?
A source fallback can be used when the file is too large for the same-site proxy, its size is unknown, or a proxy download is not available. The visible action is labeled to match that behavior.
How do I save the MP4 on a PC or Mac?
Use a download control in the player or a right-click or Control-click save action when the browser offers one. Then confirm the file in the browser’s downloads list.
Why did an MP4 link that worked earlier expire?
Source media links and DownXVideo signed download links are temporary. Parse the original public post again instead of bookmarking or repeatedly sharing the old media URL.
Can DownXVideo force every browser to download instead of play?
No. Browser handling depends on the response path, device, browser, and settings. DownXVideo labels direct-source results as Open MP4 and does not promise to override every browser’s media behavior.
