DownXVideo extension benefits

A small download button appears in the top-right corner of each supported public video.

Your browser handles the file

Download progress, save location, and completion stay in the browser’s download manager.

How it works

From the X video to your Downloads folder

DownXVideo keeps the interaction inside the page you are already viewing. The popup is for preferences and page status—not a second downloader interface.

  1. 1

    Open a public X video

The extension reads the public page structure locally and places a round download button on supported videos.

  2. 2

    Click the download button

The extension parses the public post locally and starts the highest-quality MP4 by default. The URL is sent to DownXVideo only if both local paths fail and you choose the website fallback.

  3. 3

    Let your browser save it

The source video file downloads to your browser. DownXVideo does not upload or store the video file.

Privacy boundary

No access to your X account

The extension does not request your X/Twitter password, cookies, private messages, or account access. It works with public posts you can already open in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

Browser support, download behavior, permissions, and troubleshooting for the DownXVideo extension.

Which browsers and devices support the DownXVideo extension?

Desktop Chrome 120+, Microsoft Edge 120+, and Firefox 140+ are supported. Check the store buttons above for availability; “Coming soon” means that browser does not yet have an installable release. Safari, iPhone, iPad, and Android users can continue using the DownXVideo website.

How do I download an X/Twitter video after installing the extension?

Open or refresh an X/Twitter page after installation. A round download button appears in the top-right corner of each supported video. Click it to start the download using your default quality setting.

Why is there no link field in the extension popup?

The extension is designed for direct use on the X page you are viewing, so copying and pasting a post link is unnecessary. Use the DownXVideo website when you prefer to download from a copied link.

Why does the download button not appear on a video?

Refresh any X pages that were open before installation and make sure the post is public and the video has finished loading. Private posts, direct messages, live streams, restricted media, and unsupported players do not show a working download button.

Which types of X/Twitter video are supported?

The extension supports ordinary videos in public posts and GIFs that X provides as downloadable MP4 files. It does not support private or deleted posts, direct messages, live streams, restricted media, or attempts to bypass access controls.

Can I choose the video quality and filename?

Yes. You can use the highest available quality, cap downloads at 1080p or 720p, or choose a quality each time. You can also select a filename format. Available resolutions always depend on the source post.

What happens when a post or page contains multiple videos?

Each detected video has its own download button and can be saved separately. The extension does not provide a page-wide “Download all” action for an infinitely scrolling timeline.

Where are downloaded videos saved?

Your browser’s download manager handles the file, progress, and completion status. Files normally go to the browser’s Downloads location, which you can change in browser settings.

Why does the extension need page, download, and storage permissions?

Access to X/Twitter pages places the button on supported videos and identifies the selected public post. Download permission starts the MP4 download, while storage remembers your quality, filename, and button visibility preferences.

Does the extension read my X account or upload video files?

No. It does not request your password, cookies, private messages, or account tokens. Normal parsing runs in the browser. A public post URL is sent to DownXVideo only if both local paths fail and you choose the website fallback; the source video downloads directly from X.
