Try the public-post downloader now
Paste a complete public x.com or twitter.com post URL. Do not enter a password, cookie, access token, or private link.
Public posts only. DownXVideo does not host videos, and available media links can expire.
What this guide covers
- A practical review of the current DownXVideo website and official browser extension disclosures.
- Credentials, public-link input, browser permissions, parser data paths, local preferences, analytics, and file handling.
- Observable warning signs and questions to ask before submitting a link or installing an extension.
- No guarantee of absolute safety, security certification, malware scanning, legal permission, or suitability for private or restricted media.
Run this privacy and permission checklist
Reject credential requests
Do not enter an X password, cookie, session value, access token, recovery code, or private-message content into a downloader. DownXVideo does not need them.
Confirm the input boundary
A website downloader should explain what URL it accepts and what it cannot access. DownXVideo accepts complete public x.com or twitter.com post URLs and does not support private, deleted, restricted, paywalled, or DM media.
Read the extension permission list
Compare the browser-store prompt with the official disclosure. The current Chromium extension uses activeTab, downloads, storage, supported X/Twitter page access, and exact X parsing hosts; it does not request cookies, all-sites, webRequest, identity, or notification permission.
Trace where data and files go
The website sends the public post URL to the DownXVideo parser. The extension sends anonymous parsing requests directly to X and downloads the source MP4 through the browser without sending post URLs or current-page media information to DownXVideo.
Check retention and analytics disclosures
DownXVideo states that it does not save submitted links, video files, or a download history. Website analytics exclude full post URLs, media URLs, post IDs, and filenames; extension preferences remain in local browser storage.
Keep browser and device responsibility in view
Your browser and operating system still manage download history, file location, security warnings, and local copies. Review the file before opening or sharing it, and keep your browser current.
A downloader safety checklist you can verify
| Check | What to look for | Current DownXVideo behavior |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | A public-post workflow should not need an X password, cookie, session value, account token, or recovery code. | The website and extension do not request them. |
| Accepted content | The service should state whether it supports public, private, deleted, restricted, paywalled, or DM media. | Only supported MP4 media from public posts is accepted; no bypass is provided. |
| Website data | The privacy policy should explain what the submitted URL is used for and what analytics omit. | The public post URL goes to the parser; submitted links, files, and download history are not saved. |
| Extension permissions | Permissions should be limited and connected to a visible feature. | Chromium uses activeTab, downloads, storage, X/Twitter page access, and exact anonymous-parsing hosts. |
| Video transfer | The service should explain whether the video is proxied, opened from the source, uploaded, or downloaded locally. | The website labels Download or Open MP4; the extension sends the source MP4 to the browser download manager. |
| Absolute claims | Avoid relying on “100% safe,” “anonymous,” or “private” without a matching technical explanation. | This guide does not promise absolute safety; it links to the current disclosures and actual permission list. |
Never trade account access for a download
A public-post downloader does not need your X password, cookie, account token, recovery code, or private-message content. Those values can grant account or session access and are not a normal video URL.
DownXVideo provides no credential field. The website accepts a complete public x.com or twitter.com status URL. Its extension does not request cookie permission or use the signed-in account to make authenticated X requests.
If a post is private, deleted, restricted, paywalled, or inside a direct message, stop rather than exporting cookies or trying a token workaround. The public-versus-private guide explains this boundary.
Understand the website data path
When you use the tool on this page, the complete public post URL is submitted to the DownXVideo parser so it can request available media information. A returned result can use a same-site download route or a direct source MP4, depending on file eligibility and available size information.
The current Privacy Policy states that submitted links, downloaded files, and download history are not saved. Website analytics cover traffic, page use, parser outcomes, and clicks that hand a download to the browser, but the events exclude full post URLs, media URLs, post IDs, and filenames. Aggregate download operations also exclude IP addresses, user-agent strings, media URLs, filenames, and user identities.
Your browser, operating system, network provider, and the public source can still process ordinary connection and download information. “Not saved by DownXVideo” is not the same as invisible to every system involved.
Match extension permissions to visible features
The current Chromium manifest uses three named permissions:
activeTablets the popup inspect whether the current page is supported and how many videos are loaded.downloadsgives the selected source MP4 to the browser download manager.storagekeeps quality, filename, and button-visibility preferences on the current device.
The extension also runs on supported X/Twitter pages and has exact host access needed for anonymous parsing through X infrastructure. It does not request cookies, <all_urls>, webRequest, identity, or notifications, and it does not request host access to downxvideo.com.
Chrome and Edge can locally observe only the X GraphQL JSON needed to recover MP4 details already loaded for the selected playable video. The retained entry is limited to the post ID, capture time, media type, duration, media ID, and direct MP4 variants; it expires after ten minutes or when the page closes and is not sent to DownXVideo. Review the full browser extension privacy disclosure before installation.
Check the download and the rights separately
Use your browser’s downloads list to verify the filename, transfer state, source warning, and final location. A browser or security product can still block or warn about a file. Do not disable protection merely because a page says a download is safe.
A technically downloadable public MP4 does not grant permission to publish, edit, sell, or redistribute it. Review the Terms of Use and save only media you own, have permission to use, or are otherwise allowed to save.
Warning signs that should make you stop
- A form asks for an X password, cookie export, session token, recovery code, or payment detail to open a post.
- An extension requests access to all websites or unrelated account data without explaining why.
- The service promises private-post, DM, deleted-media, or restriction bypass.
- The install link is not connected to the official product page or the store publisher and privacy link do not match.
- A site claims “100% safe” but gives no privacy policy, permission explanation, contact method, or product boundary.
- A browser security warning asks you to disable protection, install an unrelated program, or run an unknown file.
Frequently asked questions
Is DownXVideo 100% safe?
No responsible service can promise absolute safety for every device, browser, network, or future change. Review the current URL, privacy policy, extension permissions, and browser warnings, and use only the official DownXVideo pages and store links.
Should a Twitter video downloader ask for my X password or cookies?
No for the DownXVideo public-post workflow. Do not provide credentials, cookies, session values, access tokens, recovery codes, or private-message content.
What does the DownXVideo website receive?
The website receives the complete public post URL submitted to its parser. It states that submitted links and video files are not saved and that analytics events exclude full post URLs, media URLs, post IDs, and filenames.
What permissions does the Chrome extension use?
The current Chromium manifest uses activeTab, downloads, and storage, plus supported X/Twitter page access and exact host access needed for anonymous X parsing. It does not request cookies, all-sites, webRequest, identity, or notification permission.
Does the extension upload the video file to DownXVideo?
No. It gives the selected source MP4 to the browser download manager. Post URLs and current-page media information are not sent to DownXVideo, and the video file is not uploaded to or stored by DownXVideo.
Does downloading a video give me permission to reuse it?
No. Technical access and reuse rights are separate. Save only media you own, have permission to use, or are otherwise allowed to save, and follow applicable platform rules and rights-holder requirements.
